Periodontics is the branch of
dentistry that deals with the gums and bone that surround and support
teeth. In many ways, the periodontum is more important than the
tooth itself because gums and bone are directly connected to your circulatory
system and entire body.
Gum
disease is an unfortunate but very common disease affecting the
periodontum. Gum treatment, therefore,
is very necessary and very common. Much of gum treatment is performed
by dentists, for example, cleanings, deep cleanings, gum pocket measurements,
antibacterial irrigation, etc. But, everyone is affected differently
by gum disease.
Gum problems often lead to deep
gum pockets which are not resolved by standard treatment. Gum
pockets often lead to worsening gum disease and need to be treated.
This is where the gum specialist comes in, the periodontist.
Periodontist are experts at understanding
the intricate relationships between gums, bone, and the many microscopic
layers of tissue between them. They are able to surgically remove
gum pockets, usually eliminating gum disease and restoring health to
your mouth.
Periodontists also are experts
at cosmetic gum alterations. Sometimes gumlines need to be slightly
elevated or lowered to achieve symmetry and beauty.
Periodontists, as well as oral
surgeons, can also place implants.
Here at Glendale Dental Arts,
we understand how important gums are to your health. We
make it easy. By providing the latest in non-surgical gum treatments
AND having immediate access to a periodontist, you can be assured that
