Indemnity insurance is what we
think of when we talk about classical dental insurance. It has
been around the longest of all types of insurance. It is the highest
quality insurance, offering the best coverage, the easiest access, and
the most freedom to patients.
Indemnity insurance is available
through all the big-name insurance companies that we've commonly heard
of, like Delta, Metlife, Guardian, and many others. Unlike other
insurance companies, indemnity plans accept the standard dental fees
and pay a large portion of the patient's balance directly to the dentist,
easing the patient's financial burden greatly.
Normally, indemnity insurance
plans pay 100% of the cost of preventive dentistry. This includes
examinations, x-rays, cleanings.
They pay 80% of basic treatment
like fillings, gum treatment, and root canals.
And they pay 50% of major treatment
like crowns, bridges, and dentures.
Usually, indemnity plans have
a $1000 or $1500 annual limit depending on the type of policy.
Indemnity plans give dentists
and patients the greatest freedom in choosing treatment plans, often
resulting in optimal treatment. In order to offer the best service
however, indemnity insurance plans are generally more expensive to employers
or subscribers than other types of insurance. The old saying ,
"You get what you pay for" applies to dental insurance too.
